TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System for the Online users)

Low tire pressure poses a significant risk to driver’s life, increases fuel consumption, and accelerates vehicle wear.

However, with the integration of the new Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) into the Helios Tracker online platform, a multitude of possibilities unfolds. Fleet managers and vehicle users can now mitigate maintenance costs and even save lives by closely monitoring the air pressure and temperature of their tires. This innovative system provides real-time alerts whenever there is a deviation from the normal range, ensuring that users stay informed about any potential tire-related issues.

In the cutthroat world of fleet management, where success hinges on efficiency, profitability, and maintaining an edge over competitors, the tire industry emerged as a simmering source of drama. While fuel costs were traditionally the primary concern, it was an unexpected twist of fate that thrust the cost of tires into the spotlight.

  • Blowout: Low tire pressure has the potential to trigger a blowout. When the air pressure within a tire drops to an insufficient level, the sidewalls of the tire flex excessively, leading to the buildup of heat. If this occurs suddenly, it can result in a blowout. A blowout is an abrupt and unforeseen event that can cause the driver to lose control, ultimately leading to an accident. Furthermore, when a tire is under-inflated, its sidewalls experience more flexing during maneuvers such as cornering and braking than they were originally designed to withstand. As a consequence, the tread, which is the part of the tire that makes contact with the road, becomes unstable and tends to squirm. Consequently, the tire becomes less stable overall and has reduced traction.

  • Fuel economy: Low tire pressure significantly impacts fuel economy by increasing rolling resistance. When a tire is under-inflated, it requires more energy to move, placing additional strain on the engine and resulting in increased fuel consumption. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) indicates that maintaining proper tire pressure can improve a vehicle's mileage by up to 3 percent in certain instances.

  • Vehicle and tire damage: Insufficient tire pressure can expedite tire wear, resulting in a diminished lifespan and potential harm to the vehicle. The inadequate inflation causes distortion in the tire's contact area with the road surface, known as the tire footprint. Consequently, this distortion exacerbates tire wear, leading to a significant reduction in overall tire durability. Moreover, the improper distribution of forces on the wheels and steering system can give rise to steering complications and compromise the vehicle's stability.
